In collaboration with Dancers’ Workshop, Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre (BRBT) will host professional guest artists and BRBT alumni Helen Daigle, Dwayne Holliday and Shelby Williams for the 2017 Summer Dance Intensive, July 31 – August 4. This weeklong intensive provides area dancers with the extraordinary opportunity to train under the direction of these seasoned dance professionals through rigorous workshops focused on dance technique.
Helen Daigle, first soloist with Louisville Ballet in Kentucky, returns to Baton Rouge to teach ballet, pointe and variations at the intensive. Daigle has performed as a professional guest artist in several BRBT productions and recently served on the dance faculty for BRBT’s 2016 Regional Dance America Southwest Festival, Ballet Bons Temps.
Baton Rouge native Dwayne Holliday will teach contemporary dance at the intensive. Holliday has danced professionally with companies in the United States and Europe, and has a Bachelors and a Masters in Dance Studies from the Center for Contemporary Dance in Cologne, Germany, where he is currently working on his doctorate in artistic research.
Shelby Williams has danced professionally with several international ballet companies and currently performs with the Royal Ballet of Flanders in Antwerp, Belgium. Williams will travel to Baton Rouge this summer to teach ballet and contemporary dance classes at the intensive.
Registration is open to all dancers ages 12 and older. Intermediate and advanced level classes are available, and class assignments will be determined during the first class of the session. Tuition is $380 for the week, which includes four master classes each day. Classes are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, with drop off beginning at 8:30 a.m. All classes will be located at Dancers’ Workshop, the official studio of BRBT, at 10745 Linkwood Court.
