The 11th annual Baton Rouge Pride festival will be held from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the Raising Cane’s River Center Arena. Organizers say the new venue will help this year’s festival be even bigger than 2016, when approximately 10,000 people attended and more than 90 organizations and businesses participated in the resource fair. BR Pride is the largest family friendly indoor GLBTQ pride celebration in the South (if not anywhere), and this year’s entertainment lineup will feature returning favorites like the Krewe of Divas, Michigan Avenue, DJ Cameron Kelly and the Austin Babtist Women, as well as some acts new to BR Pride like Pate’ Salzeta and 9 Volt, TomPlay and Melomania. The celebration also offers a special area just for kids and this year will once again highlight “marriage equality” with a giant blessing of relationships and celebration, as well as actual weddings for interested participants, featuring a variety of local clergy and officiants. In addition, John Deshotel, community activist and long-time leader in the Krewe of Apollo Baton Rouge and the Baton Rouge Pride Team, will be recognized as the 2017 honorary grand marshal. A new element of the festival also will be a GLBTQ art show. Admission is free.
