This November Manship Theatre presents a Martin Scorsese retrospective in honor of the acclaimed filmmaker’s 75th birthday. An innovator who is as devoted to film history as he is to filmmaking, Scorsese’s work spans 50 years of master storytelling that is a culmination of influences that range from The French New Wave and Italian Neorealism film movements to his native New York City Little Italy neighborhood. Aside from the signature Scorsese trademarks—violence, profanity, morality, religion and redemption—his films inhabit deep character studies that allow audiences to relate to his often anti-hero protagonists, (frequently played by longtime collaborator Robert De Niro).
